A3-Aaron Schanck

Short Film 1

1)

  1. There is dialogue in the sound of this film,
  2. There is significant noise from the setting during dialogue during the first part of the video, however once the adults show up the background noises cease except for ambiance noise.
  3. The dialogue is used very sparingly. The space between dialogue is rather awkward, as there is a lot of space in between.
  4. When a character speaks, the camera usually cuts and focuses on whoever is talking, but sometimes  gets both characters in dialogue together.

2)

  1. Sound Effects are heard in the sequence.
  2. There is significant noise heard in the first section, takes a break when the adults show up, and pick up again when the weapons are being unsheathed.
  3. All the childlike noises such as the xylophone add to the plot of children not wanting to grow up, and the leaves give a feel of setting.
  4. Again the xylophone gives an eerie feel, kind of foreshadowing what is to come.

3)

  1. The only music is the xylophone playing in the intro and in the credit scene playing a slow strong striking lullaby.
  2. When there is music, It is at the forefront.
  3. It is used to give an eerie feeling and set the tone at the beginning.

4)

  1. The sounds in the film creates drama through suspenseful tones.
  2. The sound in the film creates a childlike atmosphere with its props and settings to enhance the images of children not wanting to grow up
  3. As Ive said numerous times, the sound creates an eerie tone through sounds of xylophone, rustling leaves, and children noises.

Short Film 2

1)

A-D There is no real dialogue in the film

2)

  1. There are sound effects heard in the sequence
  2. The entire story is basically told through the use of sound effects. The effects that are heard the loudest are ones being made by characters other than the main one
  3. The sound effects are what tell the story. About the characters frustration with confines of his boring life in a mental institution and the smallest things start to get to him, but he overcomes his frustration in the end.
  4. The effects are volume boosted to give the effect of higher frustration.

3)

  1. There only music in the film is a little folk tune bookmarking the beginning and end of the film. It uses harmonica tambourine and acoustic guitar.
  2. When music is present, It is in the background of noises to the shoe polishing.
  3. The music is just to give some interesting accent when theres just him polishing his shoes in the scene

4)

  1. The sound design gives an anxious feeling as the amplified volume puts on edge.
  2. A good example of this is when all the white liquid is spilled on his shoe. Theres a really good sound effect accompanying the image of the spill.
  3. The tone thats established in this film is anxious made by all the amplified noises.
