Analysis-3-Colleen G

In the short film “Time Persists” there is some dialogue within the film but there is only a couple of phrases said, there is also singing within it as well especially at the end. There is music present during the fight scene between the adults and the children as well as a third audio of the swords being drawn. The dialogue occurs occasionally between the two different characters and is comfortably exchanged between them while having a serious tone of voice. There are cuts made when each person talks. There are sound effects that were added such as the sound effect of swords being drawn during the fight scene as well as a musical xylophone. There is a significant noise that is present which is the xylophone and the girls jumping rope in the background. One effect I think that is specific to the storyline is the drawing of the swords sound effect, because this indicates to the viewer if they haven’t caught on already that the story is about kids not wanting to become adults just yet. The sound effect shows how the kids are thinking that the toys they are using are real weapons and how they still have a sense of imagination and fantasy and are not ready to grow up yet. The general feeling of the short film is tense because it is a tense situation between the two parties, even when one of the children moves over the to the adult side. There is both instrumental and song music in this short film. The music for the most part is in the forefront of the film and is carried out throughout the credits as well. The music is used to accent the drama and fast pace tension of the scenes as well as contrasting the ending scene following into the credits. The sounds influence the mood in and ampts the tension within the scene.

In the short film “Joe” there is not dialogue the film is mostly silent but all the natural sounds that are made within a room like footsteps and fabric moving. Visual edits between two different characters occur when the man sitting next to joe starts drinking a thing of paint. The camera cuts from the man to joe to a wide shot of both of them which we then can see the paint that fell over and is dripping down on the floor. The most of the sound effects are footsteps, clothing moving, and the paint dripping. These add specific information to the audience, with the loud footsteps and the focus on the shoes shows the audience the shoes are significant in this story, and the paint dripping is significant as well. There is music in the beginning of the sequence and the end of the sequence introducing and ending the film, it is in the background of the film it is used to accent the piece. The film revolves around the sound in this film it adds to the setting and tone of the film which is set in what is seemingly a mental hospital which is very quiet, the noises are amplified and focused on as what it may seem like to some of the patients.
