In Time Persists by Matthew Silva, there is definitely communication and dialogue in the sound of the film. The audience can hear the kids communicate to each other throughout the game of hide and seek. The dialogue in this piece coincides with background voices of younger girls playing in the background. The pacing of the sounds in this film, in particular, were very carefully thought through and planned, especially early on in the piece.
In the film, there are sound effects throughout the piece. For example, the sounds of the forest and woods, the sounds of playful footsteps running around and the sounds of the musical instrument, all of these noises were significant for the setting. These noises and sounds serves the purpose of building the scenes and storytelling and allowing the suspense to build.
In Joe by Sasha Wolf, there are a number of artistic choices the filmmaker uses to produce this piece. Visually, the black-and-white shots are immediately a story-building factor that brings attention to the setting and the story that the film-maker is attempting to portray. There is no dialogue used in this film, however there are plenty of sound effects and noises that allow for enough background information for the audience to perceive the story that the filmmaker is attempting to bring out such as the laughing nurse, the footsteps of the patient, the rolling of the wheels, background muted noise, the television scene as well.
