- Story Elements
Taking from two short films the protagonist form the “Elevator” and the “To Be a Girl” are the girls two girls who show strength and courage, and the guy innocent guy just wanting to the 9th floor, which was the highest floor you could go too.
Beginning:
In the beginning of “Elevator” The main crisis or challenge was when more people loaded onto the elevator. Knowing that when your packed together in a small canvas its hard to communicate with each other. Therefore sporting the sign of the maximum capacity of what the elevator can or cant do, gave its title to the film making the film about the object conflicting an being to several beings that relate to the object. Without the people in the elevator it wouldn’t be called the “Elevator” it would be called the People. Which is a good way for any film to have a setting and a object that can take action.
For the ‘To Be a Girl” same scenario. The narrator tells the spectator that who these girls are and why the are the protagonists of the film. With the words and visual that tells us the crisis is what the girls are doing and feeling, in the current situation they are in as being a girl. The actions in this speak fro themselves for the whole film’s meaning.
Middle:
You see that in “Elevator” that change and the crisis is noticed very quickly as soon as the protagonist, started adding numbers we was ready to act and change in situation that was going to be a bad,if the crisis didn’t get taken care of. What leads to change is acting when its unexpected in cretin times and situations.
In “To be a Girl” its shown the change when they fight their problems. The girl who carries water never stops to or gives up, because shes doing it for her school. On the other girl, she has the courage to ignore and keep going through the teasing men to reach her destination safely.
End:
The protagonist in “Elevator” changed his ways by looking making the right choices, in quick and smart ways in a setting where it is hard to avoid. When he saw that people were sick he cover him self before anything could harm him. This tell us that know what your going into and have a plan to change the setting.
For the girls they changed by fighting what ever was a challenge for them to overcome. To accept that to be a girl in that environment takes more to take care of what you represent as. We can tell that whatever it is, giving up for others and self is no option no matter the change of situations. Each have a specific role.
2. Manipulating Light – “Farm Time”
a. In ‘Farm Time’ the depth of field was spread wide verity of different kind of spots and scenarios. In terms of looking at the field, they both had wide, close, and far depth of field to show what they where working with.
b. In the Movie, you can see lots of brightness and darkness added do the scenes. In the summer and the spring times you saw more brightness because it was a climate where everything was warm and sunny. When turned into the winter and fall more of the darkness was shown to indicate the crops having less value within the time of the season.
c. The use of color in this was so bright and warm. They really showed it in the things that they where growing, like tomatoes had to be fresh and bright red but also having other crops to make more fresh for artificial look to it to have the person notice the freshness.
d. The overall look of the film with so many parts where it shows the emotions of the farmers themselves connecting with their passions and the overall look of what they showcase it huge to really get a taste of what it is to be a local small farm.
3. Framing – “Farm Time”
a. Screen aspect ration is very even which captures the whole scene to demonstrate the action that was taken in place to manipulate the emotion.
b. Overall the movement of the camera was very smooth, as it moved with the object in the scene. Like when the camera moved with the tractor and the farmer to indicate the action of what this machine can do.
c. The choice of depth of framing is used a lot in this film to show the importance of the scenario. Example would be how they used a long frame to show the fields to show how much work is to be put in and manage.
4. Visual Style – “Farm Time”
The visual style in this film was very in depth, meaning every part had a story or an meaning behind it. In the film it shows the best parts and the sad parts and the challenging parts. It gave so much verity of of emotion with visual drawings. When they showed the smiles of the farmers faces how they changed the people, or when it was a sad time that they had to sacrifice lots of their money and time into it. With the challenges of maintaining this farm in good standards to help out the local community and represent themselves and small local farmers that work hard to make a difference.
