Analysis 4 – Colleen Gallagher

The Elevator

The protagonist is the small man in the elevator at the very beginning who is the only consistent character throughout the short film. The crisis is that there is a weight limit on the elevator and more people keep coming on the elevator with him and he is afraid that it will break. In the middle he begins to add up his believed weight of everyone else then decides to leave the elevator on a random floor right before someone else comes on. His situation changes when he decides to go in another elevator then realizes that this one is also filled with people infected with the swine flu.

The manipulation of light is very bright and many light colors giveing the effect that this is a sort of warm hearted and funny film. The overall look of the piece is very clear it looks as though it was made on film instead of digital which also adds a little bit of a movie feel.

The camera choices in this film depend on what the camera is deciding to focus on to further the story. There is mostly three different shots throughout the story that are centered such as a medium close up on the main characters face, a medium shot of the whole elevator so you can see everyone as well as the outside of the elevator and people walking in, also a close up of specific details the movie the story along like the weight capacity in the elevator, the main character’s calculator, and pressing the button to call the next elevator.

The overall visual style of the film is like a movie, it is clear and straightforward, there is no major cuts or jumps the timing
