Analysis 4-Reid

In the short film, “The Elevator” the protagonist/main character was the guy who first walked into the elevator. The film starts normally with a guy just walking into an elevator. Nothing too special yet, just setting the scene for the rest of the film. This film is a comedy film. The comedy coming from this guy’s worry for the condition of the elevator. As more and more people are getting on the elevator he becomes more and more worried that the elevator will fall. The main character rushes off the elevator and hops on a different one. Only to found out he is on an elevator with a bunch of people who have the swine flu.

There aren’t any outstanding shots because there are only so many ways you can shoot a video of the inside of an elevator. There weren’t any crazy lighting sequences or anything like that. The tone of the film was very casual as it should’ve been, this way it can set the tone for the whole film.

The camera is still for the majority of the film. The shots are mostly of the people in the elevator and there isn’t much you can mess around with to make the framing fancy in an elevator. Just the people in the elevator and the different angles you can shoot from. In this case, the main focus was the main character. So most of the shots included him and his facial expressions which told the story.

This film was shot very casually. It didn’t need any fancy shots are crazy action scenes because the humor of the film came from the way the characters were shot and the simplicity of the shots. All that really needed to be captured were the faces of the characters in the film. And to do that well, all you have to do is just use nice and simple shots with the people in the middle of the frame.
