It is able for me to tell that the boy isn’t allowed to own a dog because of the body language of the ladies taking care of the house, and his sneaky behavior when it comes to him taking the rope for the dogs collar. This boy looks up to his boss. With the amount of screen time the dog and the boy had to develop their character, it was easier to tell that something was going to happen to one of them to make this short film effective. The man did this to the dog because he wanted to dog for form a bond with him and not one of the slaves. This is to keep all power, and to use the dog at his will for chores. The mans actions that deeply hurt his slave came back to haunt him after the dog was so protective of his owners death. The dog wouldn’t let the boy help his master.
