For this Analysis, I will be reviewing a short video I found on youtube that sort of resonates with some aesthetic qualities that I would like to achieve during my video about my art. There aren’t story elements to this piece, but for the purposes of aiding the creation of my video (which will include snippets of my story), I will discuss my own story in question 1.
Story Elements
In my video, I and my art would be the main protagonist. The beginning crisis for me in creating art is that I’ve always been intimidated by other art and artists because my artistic style is very simplified, and I never considered it to hold value over other’s art. The struggle I face would be the part where I describe how I’ve overcome that fear, and I would add a brief comment at the end that I hope that everyone can learn to value all forms of art, no matter how simple.

Manipulating Light
- This piece features a lot of out of focus shots that leaves the image devoid of shape almost entirely and instead focuses almost completely on the light source. There is a strongly contrasting use of this extreme unfocusing to create a sharp foreground, and apparent background, but a near complete lack of middle ground.
- The piece often uses shots that are dark in the background but bright in the foreground, but at other times shots are overwhelmingly bright. Overall this piece is what I would consider “hazy” and almost dream-like. The use of out of focus and playing with darkness and light reminds me of how the world looked after I got my 2nd concussion.
- A lot of the color is random, however, it is all focused to keep the viewer’s attention on the screen.
- I’m pretty sure this was just done digitally, there may be filters but it all looks digital to me.
Framing
- A lot of shots have no specific framing, there is not always the main focus of each shot. Since the focus of the camera creates a lot of Bokeh lights, they are framed fairly randomly and move about.
- The camera moves a lot and in a lot of different ways. This makes the film full of motion, but I couldn’t watch the clip too many times in a row because it was eventually giving me motion sickness.
- I think a lot of the depth is created by mostly the out of focus camera. There is a clip of grass that is different from the rest of the clips because the camera appears to move forward rather than erratically side to side.
Visual Style
Overall I chose to look at this video because the movement would be something I want to replicate when considering how to present my art when I animate it. I liked the motion of it, and I think it will match my art style well. Obviously, I would want my art in focus for viewers to see, but maybe I could use the out of focus shots on the shots of myself as I speak. My art is very dream-like so I want to present myself as dreamlike as well. It is a lot to put into one minute but this video was able to do so.
