Owen S – R3

For project Three my group created an informational promotional video for the late night local. I filmed, interviewed and captured audio for the project. We had some trouble filming because the late night local only runs on Friday and Saturday nights after 9, not only was this a difficult time for members of my group to meet but we only had to weekends to film. The late night didn’t give us the approval to film them until the second weekend.

We were able to talk to one of the members that has driven the local in the past and conduct an interview. This interview was the first of our footage. Later I met with Caitlyn on a Saturday night at 9 to film the local. We captured some B – roll of the van itself and the driver preparing the van for the night. Me and Caitlyn both interviewed the van driver, and rode with him, capturing some B-roll of the van in motion. Maeve interviewed a lot of students that had rode the late night local in the past. Maeve’s interviews combined with the b-roll and interview me and Caitlyn did on saturday and the interview we did the first week was all the footage we needed. Once we had all of this footage Caitlyn edited it all together and I later edited the audio to make it more crisp. The exercises we did in lab prepared me for this.

I felt like the members of my group that wanted to do well and work together did a great job at working together effectively, and the members of my group who were less interested chose to participate less. This created a situation that could have damaged the quality of our project however the members in our group who were interested in creating a good project stepped up and did some very impressive work. For one example David was initially supposed to edit our film, this didn’t go very well and Caitlyn had to step up and take the job of editing. Caitlyn did a great job editing and her contribution greatly improved out project.

The only thing that I can think of that I would like to improve in my next project is the quality of the audio. One of our interviews was filmed in a car and it was difficult to get the crisp audio that I wanted. I felt like we did a great job at achieving the goals we set out to complete with our project. We definitely communicated the message that the late night local wanted us to communicate and the quality of the video and audio effectively displayed the message. The member of the late night local crew have not yet received the final copy of our project but the gave us pretty explicit descriptions of what they wanted to see in the project and we did our best to communicate it effectively.
