A.1. Person – A person who I find interesting or inspiring would be my grandmother, who is both a state representative and nurse practitioner. She has also started a non-profit to fight opioid abuse in Washington country and has a lot of valuable insight on this epidemic.
2. A place that interests me would be the city that I have partially grown up in, Baltimore MD. The ranges of life differ greatly such as poverty and occupations in this city that many people who I know from Maine do not understand.
3. An activity that I am involved with would be my mom’s jewelry business, before college I helped her with this and would often think about documenting her process.
4. A behavior that I notice around a lot of my friends is them receiving unsolicited sexual images from people they either have never met or have had very little interaction with. It would be interesting to document these and try to figure out why anyone would do this in the first place.
5. A local business that I find interesting is my friends glass shop. It would be would be helpful to local artists to document the their creative process and see how they sell their pieces.
6. A current event that could provide subject matter is the amount of immigrants in certain parts of Maine that could be affected by deportation laws that could soon become active.
7. An issue that I have discussed in school is the affect that dams have on local water sources such as the Penobscot river.
8. An event could be the how people large amounts of snowfall affects campus life.
B.1. All of the topics listed are of an appropriate and local subject matter and would be acceptable to choose for this class.
2. A few of the locations would require traveling to different parts of the state so they would probably not be the best options for a class project.
3. I do not think that any of these topics would be too small or not hold the interest of its viewers or intended audience. There are many different aspects and opinions on each of these topics that would make them a good subject of a documentary.
4. Filming a documentary on opioid abuse or the affects of dams might require a lengthy filming process and it would be a lot harder to find the right people to interview for these. The other subjects however can all be done locally and enough information could be acquired to get across a message in a documentary film.
C.1.2. B. Dear Local artist,
My team and I are beginning research into the lives of local artists and are interested in documenting all aspects of your work, from your creative process to your business interactions. We are interested in creating a documentary film that would shed light on the difficulties of local artists and the set backs you’ve had, and how you’ve created success for yourself. The artists we are selecting for this film will are all based out of the greater Bangor area and a team of 5 students including me will be working on this project. Please let us know if you have any questions or are willing to be interviewed.
Thank you,
