Opening Shot:

Establishing Setting Shot

EVAN is walking down the street when he pauses and pulls out his phone.

Switch to screen capture of phone, where we have a text coming in from UMaine that says that the library is to be avoided.

EVAN calls JACKSON, begins conversation. The shots can switch between the two, though they were in different locations.

EVAN: Yo, dude, did you get that text?

JACKSON: Yeah… what about it?

EVAN: We should check it out.

JACKSON: Yeah, no chance. Let’s uh, not.

EVAN: Come on, it’ll be cool. And, hey, if we figure out what this is, we’ll be heroes!

JACKSON: Okay, I’m going to be incredibly clear here. Under no circumstances, absolutely no circumstances, am I going to investigate this.

JUMP CUT to EVAN and JACKSON sitting in the Memorial Union with a laptop, researching the event.

EVAN: Told you that you would end up looking into this.

JACKSON: Shut up. Oh, hey, I found something!

EVAN: Oh, shit, what is it?

JACKSON: It looks like there’s an old urban legend about some weird kid in the library who died, like a few years back.

EVAN: Died?  What killed him?

JACKSON: Doesn’t say. Just says that he died. Let me see if I can find another article…

EVAN: Impatiently Well? Did you find anything?

JACKSON: Hang on, hang on… yeah, I did. This one says that the student died of… oh God. Over studying. Guess he had a big test the next day.

EVAN: It gets us all in the end.

JACKSON: Says he died on Floor 1B.

EVAN: We have a floor 1B?

JACKSON: Yeah, they keep periodicals and stuff there.

EVAN: Why would UMaine call it dangerous though? If someone died there?

JACKSON: They probably have a good reason. It might have nothing to do with the death. Maybe there’s just asbestos.

EVAN: No, it’s more than that. I’m sure. We need to check it out. Sneak into the library tonight.

JACKSON: Okay, listen to me. Under absolutely no circumstances am I sneaking into the potentially dangerous, potentially haunted library tonight.

CUT to EVAN and JACKSON sneaking around in the library.

JACKSON: I can’t believe we did this!

EVAN: Hey, it’s all cool! We’re detectives!

JACKSON: We’re vandals is what we are! I can’t believe you broke open that window!

EVAN: Confused No I didn’t. You did.

JACKSON: Annoyed No, I didn’t. Does that really sound like something I would do?

EVAN: Well, if you didn’t break the window, and I didn’t break the window, who did?

JACKSON: Pausing Wait, I don’t actually remember inbung in through a broken window. How did we get in here?

EVAN: Guess it doesn’t matter.

JACKSON: Guess not. Weird though. Anyway, this is it. The staircase up to floor 1B. Do you really want to go up there?

EVAN: Nodding Yeah, I do.

CUT to the library, floor 1B. Wide panning shot to establish the creepiness of the location.

JACKSON: This is it. Floor 1B. Guess we should look around?

EVAN: Smart move. Let’s split up. Shout if you find anything!

JACKSON: But this is a library!

EVAN: So… whisper, I guess.

JACKSON: Okay. Sure.

EVAN and JACKSON go in different directions. The camera follows JACKSON first. We have an over the shoulder shot as he appears to be walking down the hallway. There’s a noise and he pauses, turning around.

JACKSON: Hello? Who’s there?

JACKSON: pauses, looks at the ground. There is a book lying on the ground. JACKSON picks it up and returns it to the shelf. As he does so, the same sound is heard. A book down the hallway has also fallen off the shelf. He reaches over and picks that one up. The sound is heard again and JACKSON turns, seeing another book on the floor. He moves for it, and there is a jump cut to EVAN.

EVAN: Alright, ghost. Where are you?

No response. He moves down the hallway, eventually pausing.

EVAN: I know you’re there! Where are you?

Again there is no response.

EVAN: Visibly nervous Come out!

CUT to JACKSON who is still picking up books. He pauses, (dub EVAN’S voice being visibly frightened. He stands, notices another book, and goes back to picking up the books on the ground.

CUT to EVAN who is still wandering around. He pauses, staring directly at the camera.

EVAN: Whispering Ghost.

He takes a single, small step back, then turns and moves quickly away. He passes JACKSON, who he grabs.

EVAN: Quietly Ghost.

JACKSON: Ghost?

EVAN: Ghost!

The two of them move quickly to the stairs. EVAN takes one last look back.

EVAN: This probably wasn’t a good idea.

JACKSON: Oh, great job figuring that one out!

POTENTIAL

CUT to GHOST standing in the aisle. GHOST: That was odd. I thought they wanted to talk. Whatever. I have a test tomorrow to study for. GHOST turns away, fade to black.
