Independent Short Video
Your final project is a short 60 second video which tells a story. You can take wide creative freedom with this, drawing on either the skills you have mastered, or skills you want to experiment with: visuals, style, atmosphere, sounds, audio, text and titles, etc. Your Writing 4 exercise will let you explore and get feedback on your ideas.
Consider the elements of story described in How to Shoot Video that Doesn’t Suck. Read the description of story and use it to define the four elements of your own story: Protagonist (some heros are girls), beginning–a crisis that upturns stable world, middle–how the protagonist struggles with the crisis; end–and so hat changes as a result–maybe the world, or the protagonist or both.
Consider creating a 3-5 minute rough cut video, that you will then take through some fine editing, so you will end up with a stronger piece. Aim to get your rough cut as soon as possible, with some material you can work on in the first Friday lab on April 19, and more work you can do during week 2–gathering more material, making different edits, etc. Plan to finish your rough cut by Friday April 26. This will give you a whole week to work on final and fine edits.
