Collaborative Work: My main contribution to this work was interviewing, recording audio, and helping capture footage. Aaron also did a large part of this and did the bulk of the editing, he was also the head director and helped organized what the group was going to do. Our other group members did a number of smaller interviews on their own, and did help with some of the things Aaron and I focused on
2a. We contacted a number of professors for interviews in order to set up times for interviews. These include Joline Blais, Jon Ippolito, Aaron Boothroyd, and Adam Paul.
2b. We interviewed a number of different people: students who were passing by in our dorms and in areas we frequent, teaching assistants and upperclassmen of the major, newer students, and a number of New Media professors.
2c. Our group did not need to do much research, as we are part of the major and our documentary did not require much in order to do the interviews. We did learn a lot through the interviews themselves however.
2d. The bulk of our non-fiction filming were of interviews, and we collected our B-roll from various New Media classes, time in between interviews, and other locations that are New Media hubs.
Post-Production: In our post-production process, we did not do any reshooting. We decided on structure that cut out the interviewer asking the questions and instead putting the question or topic on a slide before showing film related to it. We did this so we could move quickly through the variety of answers. Our rough cut was just throwing all of the available footage we had into one video, due to time constraints, and so the difference between the rough and final cuts are immense.
Product: The objective of this production were definitely achieved in the final product. Our goal was to show the confusion surrounding and clarify what the term New Media means, as well as the major itself. Our visual, audio and editing elements are all relatively straightforward in showing a variety of different answers given by the students and professors in order to clarify the meaning of New Media. So I believe we were successful in completing the objectives we set for ourselves portraying the themes we wished to in our film.
I think having a more free structure allowed for our group to learn a lot of things by doing it ourselves and having to figure things out by necessity. I also think this process made us more self reliant and gave us more confidence in video production.
