Report 2 – Brett Smith

For the creation of this project to be possible, it took a team effort. Everyone collaborated with brainstorming possible ideas until we all agreed on one. The team consisted of Michael Ciance, Bobby Hebert, Kat Hinman, Eliza Bennett, Matt Marchewka, and myself. Michael and Eliza were mainly in control of video and audio although I did do a little filming as well, Kat and Matt helped with the script, and I did the editing of the video. In order to create this film, we interviewed our teachers assistant, Ian Donnelly. For our project, extra research was not needed because we already knew everything we needed to know going into the project. For b-roll, we took shots of people walking around campus. We used a documentary style by setting the camera on a tripod and simply documenting what was happening.

When editing the footage, I was not there for one of the shooting days so I was not sure what style the filmer was going for so it took me a while to try to find the right flow. Eventually I found it after trial and error, swapping clips and audio to find what matched. I quickly moved from the rough cut to the final cut after tweaking the project some more. As the editor, I think the objectives were fulfilled through the final product. Using separate audio helped reduce wind noise which made the video more crisp. The experience could have been made better if we had another week to film and gather footage, I found myself working with limited footage trying to meet the goal of a 4 minute video.
