- Pre-production and production – What steps did you go through to make this film?
- a. Who was contacted?
We contacted a couple local business owners, and some employees of Umaine, and UCU, but had no luck finding anyone who wanted to be filmed.
- b. Who was interviewed?
We ended up only getting to interview students because there was a lot more of them accessible, and they were a lot more cool with it. I think we ended up getting a total of 6 or 7 students.
- c. What research was conducted?
We found out why students wanted to come to college and if they felt like it was a necessary decision to be successful in life.
- d. What footage of non-fiction events and activities was filmed; and/or what B-roll did you collect and from what sources?
We didn’t do a good job getting B-Roll or activities to help support this idea.
- Post-production – Describe the course of editing the film, including key steps in the process and decisions in developing structural elements for the video. For example, how did you move from a rough cut to fine cut to final cut? Were any major changes made during the editing process? Was there any reshooting?
I think the editing tied the shots together really well, because we used all the same questions for each interview. So quick cuts from each interview asking the same question provided an easy comparison and easy opportunity for the audience to formulate their own opinions from the data.
I think we could’ve done a better job turning our rough cut into a final draft, perhaps adding more b-roll or supporting footage.
- Product – Were the objectives of the production fulfilled through the final product? Were the elements of image, sound, and editing effective in communicating the intended themes and ideas and presenting the subjects seen in the video?
Again, I think it was key to have each subject answering the same question right after each other to establish comparison.
- What would have made the experience better for you in terms of learning, collaborating, confidence building, or in any other way?
I think we could have asked more people to interview, everyone was sort-of sitting around with the pack mentality, waiting for someone else to ask people to interview, and because of that, we didn’t end up getting as many interviews as we should’ve.
