Report 3 – JohnBaker
For our project, we all met up to film at WMEB. Kat, MK and Claire all recorded video and I recorded the audio. I also did a little bit of touching up to the audio and video that we had. I think we were properly prepared and having a longer time to work on it definitely helped us break it up without cramming. The sound only required a bit of work in premiere, and I tried my best to level it and keep it at a constant volume. The final edit product looks pretty good, and used all the pieces of footage we had. We all met up and had great ideas for the project. When we met up at the radio station, Claire gave a suggestion to get b-roll of the walls covered with music posters of past programs, something that would look great. Kat also offered to go in and record herself reciting the morning radio intro, which serves as a good introduction to our video. To improve for next time, I would probably make sure that we received our camera fully charged, as we found out that when we rented it, it was already almost dead and we lost a lot of time charging it so we could use it again. For post production, we should all meet up to edit on one computer, as transferring files around caused a lot of stress since some didn’t work on peoples computers.
I think we got across the message we desired to set out. Our goal was simply to spread the word about WMEB to people who have never heard of it. The quality was also pretty good and I’m glad we had a high quality camera to record with instead of having to use a cellphone or something. The pacing of the piece is relatively slow and we don’t use many cuts in the entirety of it. We haven’t put in any background music yet but we are working on that process at the moment. Apart from that the only sounds are the dialogue of the interviewees and the introduction of the daily radio show. Our dialogue came out pretty well even though we recorded it on a cellphone. For some reason some of the dialogue in the premiere file was a little bit choppy at certain parts, so I did my best to make it sound better. I think the impact of the video came out as we hoped, and showed what we wanted to portray.
Luckily we had close ties with the employees of WMEB. Stella and Kat are both involved/employed at WMEB so we were able to have their creative input in our project.
