Report 3- OliviaBurton

A. Process

  1. For this project, we approached a more collaborative way of placing roles. Yes, I did have roles such as filming, driving our group the 1 1/2 hours it took to get to the brewery, but also we all went to each other on advice from all sources. Meaning that we all tried putting a bit of each person’s opinion and judgment into each piece (for the most part).
  2. I believe I was fully prepared for this project. I made sure to have proper equipment, pick everyone up on time for the drive, and most importantly- listen to others input. Along with that I also did complete the Sound Work assigned in lab. Although, I believe we captured all of the elements “properly” in my eyes- the edit that turned to be our outcome was not what I expected. I blame this on not just one person but solely myself and our overall group. Each one of us went on the drive to the Brewery over one weekend except for the one member who offered to be in charge of editing. So, after filming and collecting our footage, we sent it in a google drive and expected our editor to know exactly what the rest of us were imagining. I think we could’ve all communicated more on the idea each of us had on editing aspects such as background music, color grading, and clip cuts.
  3. Our group worked effectively in time management and making it known from the very beginning that planning our film locations and times was highly important. I also believe that we worked effectively in being open to others’ suggestions and being more than willing to combine and collaborate ideas.
  4. For the next project, I believe it would be helpful to have each member of the group try and attempt all aspects of film making. Meaning, that if one member is given the role to film- it is not just their job, but everyones. By each role belonging to the group as a whole I think it makes sure that every aspect is done properly by being shown and approved by everyone.

B. Video Analysis

Overall, I believe the strongest qualities sourcing from our promotional video we created would be the use of dialogue & the pacing of our shots. The message we were aiming for was to capture the rustic quality and put emphasis around the theme of “origin”. Meaning that there would be a decent chunk of information and background included in this video to properly understand the story being told. Along with the information (being told by the Owner and founder through the audio from the interview) the dialogue is placed over visuals of the location and different small details to help the viewer to maximize their understanding on the overall intention of the video.

C. Client Analysis – I have yet to hear about any feedback from the Brewery owner.
