The biggest issue I faced with this assignment was finding something to film, I think it was harder because in past projects the ideas came from collaboration. At the same time, working alone was very enjoyable because it allows you to create your own idea and not have to adjust to other ideas. When I finished the video, I was most proud that I was the one that filmed and edited, because I haven’t had full control on any past projects, so being able to take full credit was very accomplishing. After creating this video, I realized that I work much better alone. Although I enjoy working in collaboration I liked being able to create and produce my own idea. I also learned that my strong suit is definitely in editing. I learned a lot of tools this year and could finally apply them.
My project was a hand-held film. A lot of the video was filmed from an over-the-shoulder perspective because I wanted it to be as if its in the actors perspective. Towards the end of the video, when the second actor is introduced it is switched to a wide frame showing them both. There is no music, but there is a dialogue between the two actors. It supports the story and helps the flow, explaining what is going on. The film is fast-paced, the editing is fast cuts helping include more footage in such a limited amount of time. I think this is the most efficient type of filming to get a message across or keep the viewer’s attention because it is so fast paced. Overall, I am satisfied with my film. I believe that the sound is clear and the over-the-shoulder perspective is a different take on it. If I could change one thing, I think it would be to film something more interesting, which is the story being told in my video.
