Report 4 – Evan Gillingham

  1. My editing skills were definitely minimal going into this project, as I didn’t have an opportunity to be lead editor in any of our group projects. Besides what we worked on in lab and what we went over in class, I didn’t really have much of an understanding of the interface of Premiere, but after watching a couple of online tutorials, we figured out how to do what we wanted.
  2. I liked getting the opportunity to use my roommates as props and play with my roommate’s dog for a project for class.
  3. I think the overall execution of the video was well done and came out at least moderately funny considering the length of the video.
  4. I’m proud to know that I’m at least capable of fully producing a piece of film from start to finish and could even consider it to be good.

My shots are framed similarly to a infomercial; lots of different shots of the “product” from different angles to better understand what the product would look like when actually purchased. Unfortunately, most products don’t walk around and bark so framing wasn’t always perfect but I think the shots I used were used well. There was plenty of shots but still far away from jump cuts. The dialogue doesn’t really support a narrative per-say, but more of a comedy sketch. The audio in the background is royalty free “happy” music which cuts in as soon as the negative examples in the beginning are over. I tried to make it as cheesy as an infomercial, but I think I probably could have gone even cheesier if I looked harder. I tried to match the pacing of an actual infomercial as best as I could but unfortunately, most infomercials are two minutes long rather than the one, so we had to keep pace pretty fast and only include the really cliche infomercial stuff. There isn’t any tension or dramatic moments in the piece, but it definitely keeps moving without losing your attention so you don’t lose interest. Overall, I am satisfied with my project and I hope you are as well.
