Self-Reflection
 –

Overall, I think the most challenging aspects of creating this video were the angles I had wanted to capture. In my opinion, I think perspective and the angles shot at are vital contributors to creating the proper aesthetic one is aiming for. So, to overcome this challenge I had taken my time planning out what shots I was going to take and practiced shooting actual clips and revising what I could change afterwards. I think the most enjoyable aspect of this project was seeing it all come together in a way that I was trying to imagine. I think this topic that I based my project off of is a very personal one to me. So, it was of high value to capture every aspect properly.

I learned a few things about myself while doing this project. One, is realizing that the product will come out better in the long run if one takes their time. I have a habit of rushing through in the hopes of just completing an assignment, but with the assignments I have had throughout this semester I have slowly become more and more efficient in not rushing. Along with that, also goes the largely important factor of time management. This is another thing, that not only myself but majority of other students can agree upon is rather difficult. Before, I would’ve looked at a due date and automatically assume that means I could wait to the very last minute to complete it. In which, I am now realizing only triggers more stress and anxiety. All of which, takes away from the genuine enjoyment in completing a project like this one. Lastly, I also felt I have learned more technical aspects and have noticed an improvement on my editing and filming skills.

Video Analysis
 –

Personally, for my specific topic of “small tattoos” and attention to details- I had felt it was only best to get a majority of close-up shots. In which, ended up playing a massive role in the composition of the video. Although there is a similarity in the closeness these shots were taken at, I had also remembered that I could also tweak things like depth of field and exposure. So, with playing around with the two I had characterized each shot to the subject it would be capturing. The pacing of the shots was heavily impacted by the music I had chosen for the ambient background. I had originally had the vague thought that the audio I longed to use would have a prominent bass. This bass, I would later on utilize to be the tool that helped with visual transitions such as the captions appearing on the screen at set times.

The ambient audio beat that I put in the background definitely played the base structure of where I was going to place my “steps” on tattooing. Once the bass boosted in one instant, I would try and place the clip with the caption during that moment. Afterwards, I’d see how long the clip should last and what I could come up with to say for that specific one. I am convinced I did this in the oddest way possible, but for some reason made perfect sense at the time?

Overall, I can honestly say I am satisified with the outcome of this final project. Now, inevitably I think most people always feel like there is room for improvement so- of course, if I did have more time I would tweak a few things. Such as, possibly see what other shots I could get and have a larger variety of different ones, and to see if it would change the aesthetic in a negative or positive sense.
