Report 4 – SaraT

Self Reflection

  1. The most challenging aspect of the project was how I was going to represent my still images in a video format. I think I met this challenge by showing different pieces in the shots using different pans, different angles, and even a relapse of creating the piece.
  2. I really enjoyed writing the monologue and incorporating that audio with the music. Audio is sort of my background, so I suppose I will always find this part the most fun.
  3. I’m really proud of how many shots I included in my piece! I knew that I had to keep the piece moving so I had a lot of different shots in just one minute. I’ve never edited a whole film before this project, so I’m really glad about what I pulled off.
  4. I learned that I’m actually not too bad at making a whole project all on my own. I just used my cellphone for the camera work. So I had to do a lot of color correction, which I hadn’t done before. This project did give me a lot of self-confidence in my skills as a creator. Which is what my film is about anyway, so I suppose the whole process just helped even more.

Video Analysis

  1. My film features a combination of panning and still shots. Most of the shots are in focus, and there is a variety of shots. The only shots that concern me the most were a few of the shots on the window. I did a lot of correction on them but they didn’t seem to stick, but I really wanted that aesthetic so I kept them in. Art in a window just makes sense to me. I’d say there is a good variety of shots, I have 12 of them! My favorite shot is the last shot of me smiling. (How arrogant…) I just thought it would be the perfect way to end the film! I had a friend film me for a minute and we held a conversation until he got a laugh out of me, that way the smile would be genuine. 😀
  2. This film is less of a clear story, but more of an explanation. However, the dialogue does move forward in a sense, I planned the monologue/voiceover to be that way. For the music, I picked a piece that complimented my voice so they wouldn’t wash each other out. I edited the voice over audio a bit so that it would be at an even level.
  3. I think that the edits cohere. I tried to time the audio to occur on a scene change, and I had a lot of shots which keeps the visuals rolling. In earlier iterations, I had some shots that were much too long for a minute long video. I did a lot of color editing on all of the shots to try and make them as even as possible, and so that they all matched each other aesthetically. My art is all about the aesthetic, so the over saturation is intentional.
  4. I was very satisfied with the finished piece! I think it’s fun, and considering I had very little practice in the other areas going into this, it came out really nicely. It was REALLY nice to work on a project alone that was about something meaningful to me. I have a really hard time working with people I guess. I felt much more comfortable and in my element with this even though almost everything I did with this project was out of my element.
