Self-Reflection

For my final project I decided to create a music video for a song I created with my roommate. The most challenging aspect of this project was definitely the audio. The framing was very difficult during the editing because it was very difficult to get the frame to be similar enough between shots that switched from in person to on a screen but getting the audio to synch up with and be convincingly similar enough to the visual transitions was much harder. I did many different takes of the audio with different audio samples to find what worked best. The filming was the most enjoyable aspect because I had a friend film a few shots while I played guitar outside, the rest of the filming I did and it was interesting to try and think of different transitions that I could include. I am not completely satisfied with my final copy of this project but I am definitely proud of what I was able to accomplish. I will most likely continue to edit this in the future and work on getting the audio to the point that I envision it to be.

Video Analysis

I chose to frame every shot like it was zooming out from the subject. This was a goal for me because I wanted to create an effect that seemed like it was one shot continuously zooming out of different layers of film. The audio was meant to supplement this by reducing the quality of the audio as the subject gets farther away and including audio samples of different things that are present in the film. For example, kitchen and cooking sounds when the film zooms out and you see someone cooking in the kitchen. The editing was one of the most difficult parts because getting the shots to line up as close to as perfect as I could was very difficult. Also when the shot would change from a subject in the foreground to the same subject on a television screen in a separate location, the lighting as well as the color dynamics would change a lot. I had to do a lot of color and light correction. I felt like I was able to do the best I could with the equipment I had for filming a shot of a phone or Television screen. Using that method of filming I noticed there is a lot of factors that can go into distorting the quality of the film on the screen. Factors like glare, lighting, screen brightness and screen color distortion were tough to work with but I learned many techniques that I will be able to use in the future.
