A.) Ideas

After brainstorming with our group these are some of the ideas we came up with.

1.) Crime on campus (Police)

2.) The campus wide Pothole situation

3.) Umaine’s environmental impact

4.) Vaping on campus

The UMPD is a rather interesting topic we have been exploring in our group. How the police handle the school and prioritize the importance of tasks and student safety.

The library holds interest to me, the calm and studious environment yet no longer so much a place of books as a place to learn and study via the internet and new technologies.

I think for this documentary we will be going with the UMPD and how safe students feel at the University of Maine.

B. Feasibility

Now that you have generated a list of potential topics for your project, consider which options are within your reach. For each of the preceding subjects you listed, consider whether the feasibility of interview candidates, and potential B-roll for this subject.

  1. Appropriate

Yes all the topics are appropriate for a quick documentary series.

  1. Accessible – Can you get to the location/people that you need and do you have permission to be there if needed?

I think we can get all the people we need and permissions required to shoot this documentary, we will have to talk to the UMPD and a few other resources and arrange interviews.

  1. Size

This topic is important to everyone and relative to the current climate around safety in the school environment.

  1. Scope

The topic is just the right size, it might take a little longer than a smaller topic but I believe it is within our scope to accomplish in the designated amount of time we have.

  1. aspect of the topic?

The aspect is on how people feel in terms of safety and how the UMPD creates a safe environment for those people. The aspect is from a purely documentative perspective.

C. Development

From the preparatory work you have done so far in class and lab, select one of the topics, and draft a piece of writing to initiate the development of this project.

  1. For this piece of writing, you will choose the most appropriate and useful type of material for the topic and your needs. Pick one from the following choices:

Mission Statement

A.) Subject

For assignment 2 we will be doing a documentary on campus safety. The main focus of the documentary will be the student population and the UMPD who serve to protect those students. We will interview a number of people in different positions around campus. We will interview the UMPD, an RA of one of the dorms, a community coordinator and at least two students, one male and one female.

B.) Objectives

We want to make this project to expand and educate people on the safety measures the administration around campus take to protect the students. As well as how the students feel, is there a general feeling of safety on campus? How can safety measures be improved? Modified? We are curious about these questions and more, it is our hope this documentary will explore all these topics and provide valuable information by going directly to the source.
