In the trailer for Waltz with Bashir, there are shots of tanks with guns and there is dialogue to suggest that one of the characters has forgotten what has happened, or perhaps has tried to block that information from their mind. In Baraka there are many shots of humans and snapshots of their daily lives, juxtaposed with other living beings. The trailer for Baraka contains many visual elements with very little dialogue.

The Corporation can be described as an in depth analysis of the role of the corporation in modern society. The sections of the documentary include a description of the entity that is a corporation and how functions, the benefits corporations can receive, the mindset of the corporation, the relationship of corporations with the environment, the relationship of corporations with people and the relationship of corporations with the government. At all of the transition points between these sections, there would be an anecdote before a title card would introduce the next section.
I would classify this documentary somewhere between narrative and non-narrative. It begins with an explanation of the corporation and how historically corporations exploited loopholes in the laws to their benefit. This kind of structure fits the classification of narrative. But after this a lot of the sections could be reorganized and would not impact the content of the documentary too much. Since so much of the material in this documentary is conceptual so the way it is explained is by experts juxtaposed with older footage preaching the joys of capitalism and corporations.

The perspectives offered in this documentary are that the corporation is a pervasive entity in our society that causes a lot of harm and we are sitting idly by and letting that happen. The earliest clue about the director’s intentions was from the explanation of the corporation. The documentary explained that the corporation exploited the laws to be able to make more money. This shows that a lot of the information in this documentary will be critical of corporations. I think the best way to describe this documentary is a combination of reporter and prosecutor. One sequence that was very telling was that a man was explaining how he would tell his daughter what he does. He would tell her something like “Oh, I protect the rights of business and help them find their voice,” or something along those lines and juxtaposed with that were lawsuits that he filed essentially giving corporations more reign to be destructive all in the name of profit. I don’t really think the documentary was unethical in its approach to getting material. The corporate leaders they interview might have been manipulated to get the material they needed for the film, but there was nothing terrible unethical about this.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

17,48

post-1960","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-a2","category-lab3"],"featured_image_urls_v2":
"1536x1536":"","2048x2048":"
"post_excerpt_stackable_v2":"
The central subject of Waltz with Bashir is war and the lengths people go to forget the traumas of war, while the central subject of Baraka is life and the human experience.
