My role in this project was cameraman. I was responsible for the quality and consistency of our video shoots and I feel I did well in that department. All of our video has good quality and there was more than enough shot for the film to make sure we had a variety of footage to work with. I also played many other roles throughout the making of this film like helping come up with interview questions, and the vast majority of the editing. Overall I feel I exceeded my expectations In terms of contribution to the film. My team worked well together, Sara and myself mostly worked together outside of school, and I really didn’t work with anyone besides her because of some scheduling difficulties and different roles that everyone else played throughout. We had a lot of issues trying to get interviews lined up but were able to get many solid student interviews with a lot of different opinions which was perfect. We also were able to get an interview with the chief of UMPD. I think everyone pulled their own weight throughout the making of this documentary for the most part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our group contacted the Chief of the UMPD, and UMaine Parking Service staff. We got an interview with the UMPD chief but UMaine Parking Services weren\u2019t able to be interviewed. Our film wasn\u2019t necessarily utilizing research as much as it was opinion of the student populus. All of our footage was non-fiction. Our b-roll was all filmed raw on campus, and we collected about 13 minutes of it to choose from. Half of that b-roll was filmed on my phone though so there is one piece of film in the beginning that is of lesser quality but it was a really good dynamic shot so I decided to put it in there anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The editing took a lot more decision making skills than our previous project because of all the different kinds of footage that had to mold together rather than just editing scenes together. There weren\u2019t any major editing changes throughout the process of making the final cut. Rather just making the film flow better from scene to scene using transition edits and cuts in and out of background music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The video begins with a profession perspective about the problems that students have on campus, then transitions to the students and their thoughts on the issue of parking on campus. The video ends with the similarities of students and staff on campus in terms of parking. I used this layout to create some tension between the students and staff at first, but when it gets to the end and the staff have similar experiences and inconveniences as the students, it reinforces the idea that something needs to happen on campus with the parking because everyone at UMaine is suffering because of it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I feel if our group worked as more of a team it would\u2019ve made this entire experience much more fulfilling and efficient. Most times it felt like our group was divided and because of many factors like illness and scheduling issues. This basically put 80% of the burdon on just Sara Taylor and myself. At the end of the day our project still got done though.
