For my final project, I’m going to produce a short video displaying students on their phones. In this digital age, where school assignments are practically paperless and our dependency to our devices is ever growing, I’d like to make a short film to point out this epidemic. I think a video with no audio except for some background music would make my piece more powerful. Maybe if I’m in a loud, crowded space, I’d incorporate the background audio into my film. I’d like the footage to be that of an organic moment, I do not want to have actors in this film pretending to be on their devices or what not. So going to heavily populated places on campus like the union or library could be some great spots to shoot some video. To juxtapose the subject of my film, I think getting some footage of kids doing activities out in the world with no phones or devices would be good to show too. I’d like to show how happy people are when they’re separated from their devices.\u00a0 Genuinely when I observe people on their phones, they have very seldom looks on their faces. As far as the shots id be shooting, I’m not sure how I would want to lay them out but getting a lot of B roll will be crucial.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I think I want to start my video with a simple opening question either narrated or displayed on the screen. “What do you think this person is doing?”. Next, I would show only close ups of peoples faces on their phones, without showing the phones. As time progresses, I would introduce the full body shots, showing people on their phones and revealing the subject of my film. I think I’ll ask the same question and show closeups of people doing activities or just any sort of activity other than on their device.
