allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This was my script before I edited it down to make the one minute mark!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>when i was 3 months, i lost my hearing.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>by a year and a half after multiple surgeries, it was back.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i couldn\u2019t read until i was 10, but my hearing was perfect.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>last january, i got sick. it was just the common cold that everyone in the dorms had, so i did nothing about it.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3 months later i finally went to the doctor.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i had a double ear infection.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>she asked if i was ever in pain because i must have had it for a while.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i said \u201cno, i\u2019m used to my ears being in pain, i guess i didn\u2019t notice it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>in july, i went in for my annual physical.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i failed my hearing test for the first time since i was 3 months old.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>she asked if i noticed any hearing loss.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i said \u201cno\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>in august, i failed my hearing test again.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>she asked if i noticed any hearing loss.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i said \u201cyes\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>she said i needed to see an audiologist.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>in november, i had a real hearing test.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said that i was on the boarder of normal hearing.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said they didn\u2019t understand.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said i was too young.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said they don\u2019t know what to do.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said to come back in 3 months.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>in january, i had another real hearing test.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i was hopeful this time.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i thought things were better.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said i was below normal.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said i have lost 30% of my hearing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said they didn\u2019t understand.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said i\u2019m too young.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said they don\u2019t know what to do.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>they said it\u2019s going to get worse.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2022\u2022\u2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>i\u2019ve learned to look at people when they are speaking, to read their lips. i\u2019ve learned to watch tv with subtitles. i\u2019ve to listen to music at volume level 41 in my car. i\u2019ve learned that when it rains, i can\u2019t hear anything but the rain. i\u2019ve learned that planes don\u2019t affect me. i\u2019ve learned that when i swallow or yawn my ears pop. i\u2019ve learned that when i\u2019m chewing, the whole world goes silent. i\u2019ve learned that it\u2019s worst at night. i\u2019ve learned not to scream when i talk, because just because i can\u2019t hear myself, doesn\u2019t mean others can\u2019t as well. i\u2019ve learned that some days i can\u2019t hear at all. i\u2019ve learned not to cry about it. i\u2019ve learned that i\u2019m going deaf at the age of 19. but i\u2019ve also learned to laugh about
