A. Self-Reflection<\/strong> For project 4 I created a drone video of one of my favorite places to explore, the Cape Rosier Mine, an old copper and gold mine abandon long ago. The most challenging aspect of this video was flying the drone while in a moving vehicle. A friend of mine drove the vehicle around the steep roads of the mine while I sat in the passenger seat and followed with the drone. This was difficult simply because of all the moving aspects. I had planned on using the drones “auto track” feature but it was not working at the time so I had to do it manually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Besides the small issue with the drone, shooting the 1 minute video was very satisfying and fun. I love exploring abandon places and this mine is a great example of a place you might overlook. I feel like the final video came out rather well. Through the video I learned how difficult it can be when you don’t have all the shots you originally wanted to have. Also I learned the hard way that when DJI boasts a 26 minute battery life on there drones, they may as well be lying. I would say the maximum shot time I got per battery was about 18 minutes. When your in the air every second counts and pre-planning your shots is essential to maximizing your productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n B. Video Analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Most of the shots are long sweeps or pans, I framed the shots around my car, as the main subject of the movie. The film starts off with a shot of the beach and slowly makes its way to my car, after the vehicle starts (this was done through a quick series of shots of me turning the key, the engine rpms and a shift scene) I then follow the vehicle through the iron spotted landscape. The shots are centered around the car and I attempt to keep continuity by editing them together in directional sequence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The music I chose felt fitting for ‘A Quick Drive’ its got a good beat and works well with how the shots change. In terms of other audio effects, at one point in the car start sequence you hear the engine rev up and the music get louder, this was done to add to the drop in the music and complement the car rev noises. I think the audio came out well and I’m happy with my choices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The edits build tension which is released as the car starts, then the video continues to flow as we see longer shots of the car driving. This was done by slightly increasing the volume and lining up the drop in the music with the car shifting scene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I am satisfied with the way the video turned out, I had some trouble with the ending but I think it came out the way I wanted it to.
