Writing 1-BrodyL

  • The setting is Sugarloaf Ski Mountain, a nice, bluebird clear day in November.
  • Brody and his friends are first shown having a couple beers at the mountains pub for lunch. Context will be given this time Brody has had a couple to drink, and also hasn’t been skiing in a year, after skiing every ski season since he can remember. This could be shown through some closeups, maybe a couple wide shots to show the restaurant, but this context could mainly be given through a conversation with friends.
  • EXT. Going up the chairlift post lunch, Brody talking about having not skied in so long, saying he wants to go hard. Friends tell him he should still take it easy.
  • Cut to skiing shots Brody is skiing fast and hard, starts to go harder and harder, clear intensity build by a use of quick cuts and closeups. Dramatic music to help build the intensity of this scene. The buildup leads to him eventually crashing very hard onto his collarbone, cut to replay cut from shot including friends watching and then skiing to Brody’s limp body.
  • Wide shot, Brody on the ground screaming in pain saying his shoulders broken, friends deciding to call ski patrol, some conversation about condition of Brody, he seems to be very bummed out but is keeping a positive attitude, glad it wasn’t worse.
  • Jump cut to ski patrol packing him into a sled and some shots of him going back to first aid and finding out he broke his collarbone.
  • To shoot this I think you’d definitely need some sort of stedicam or glide-cam, some sort of stabilization system to get the ski shots. Since it’s being filmed on this gigantic setting which people travel very quickly around, I think a drone would be extremely useful to gain some of these shots. A tripod would also be necessary for some of the introductory shots in the restaurant.
