Writing 1 – MichaelC

Setting:

The setting is a suburban backyard with a couple of trees on the lawn.  It is a sunny day, quite, like any other average day in the summertime. It is the weekend where families are relaxing like usual.

What led up to this event:

The scene starts with everything very quite, with close ups of the yard and things in it.  Such as the trees, fence, pool, with nothing but the whirring of the wind and leaves. The very slow panning close ups set the scene to possibly feel post apocalyptic or like something bad had just happened and this is the quite aftermath.

Actions of the scene:  This scene is an opening scene to a crazy movie, a dream sequence, or some weird parody (could imagine this on a show like family guy).  The lead up shots establish the scene making it seem tense, empty, and also makes the viewer anxious for what is to happen. The camera would cut to the branches of the tree, while off screen the whirring of a chainsaw starts up.  After the chainsaw starts to get going the camera cuts to a wide shot over the fence looking into the tree. All you can see is some sawdust start to kick up and the tree branches start to shake. It then cuts to a low angle looking up at the tree, with just the blade of the chainsaw finishing the cut.  The camera tracks the top of the tree as it falls over at sticks to it for a few extra seconds. The camera then cuts to a over the shoulder shot of the figure that cut it down. In the distance where the tree fell very small humans scurry from the fallen tree and run off into the woods. It then cuts from where the tree used to be and shows a human sized squirrel in a middle aged suburban dad attire with chainsaw in one hand and his other on his hips looking proudly at his cut tree.

Gear:  Tripod for still shots.  Depending on what is the around the yard, possibly a ladder to achieve high reaching shots.  A regular microphone to get premade sounds to put over the film in post.
