A. Brainstorming: Person – I find the people who give out parking tickets very interesting. They are very passionate and love their job. They take it very seriously as well. Place – Parking lots at UMaine are very interesting because it is a place that everyone on campus visits and it causes a lot of issues and tension between people. Activity – I am regularly involved with parking at the CCA. Behavior – A behavior that I see very regularly is people getting angry with the parking on campus. Business – Parking tickets that are issued is a local economic activity that every commuter is familiar with. Event – A current event that is happening on campus is the lack of parking spaces vs the amount of passes issued. Academic or thematic concept – There is no issue that I have examined in any of my courses at school, but the topic of parking is discussed a lot amount students. Media – No I don’t have any footage of the parking topic but it would be very easy to get footage because I park on campus everyday.
B. Feasibility: Appropriate – Yes this topic is acceptable. Accessible – Yes, the location is the UMaine parking lots and UMaine campus and the people we are interviewing are students, UMPD and the Parking Services. Size – I don’t think our topic is too small. We plan on talking to commuters and non-communters so that will give a lot of interviews with people. Scope – I do not think our topic is too big because we have a direct question and focus, parking at UMaine.
C. Development: Crew – Our mission during our time making this documentary is to dive into the true mystery of why UMaine parking is so bad. We will be asking commuters their opinions on the parking. We will be asking non-commuters how they imagine the parking situation is and from both groups of people we will be hearing their stories. We will go to UMPD to ask for tips about the situation and see if they know the true reason why it is so bad. We will also be getting their opinion on the parking. And lastly, we will be going to the source, the University of Maine Parking Services. We will see how much they are willing to share about the ratio of parking passes to parking spots. Ask them why they are so hard on students who are just trying to make it to class on time. It might not be hard, but it will be cold and it will be interesting. Subject – Our topic is parking on campus and we will be interviewing commuters, non-commuters, UMPD and Parking Services. Objectives – We want to make this project because students are very upset with the parking situation. Also we are curious if the amount of parking passes is more than the amount of parking spaces. Lastly, the people who give out tickets and tow are ruthless so we are interested in picking their brain about this situation. Team – I will be directing. Tahj will be editing. MK will be writing and I will be helping her if she needs it. Sara will be doing the audio and Zac will be the cameraman. Setting – The documentaries setting will be parking lots and around UMaine campus. Timeline – We will start filming B-role on Friday and then doing interviews with UMPD and Parking Services next week plus anything else we didn’t get. Then Tahj will start editing it when he gets the footage.
