Question: “Is a college education useful and essential?”
- Person: Two experts: Business owner, People in Career Center
- OHOP or OBC, Naomi (career center), Joline, Ian, dorm, Jake’s friend
- Place: UMaine
- Activity: (how this personally affects you)
- Behavior: Constant “need” of a degree, peers wonder if a degree (especially in new media) is worth it.
- Business: Talk to employers of local businesses about what they look for in employees
- Interview a variety of people, including a variety of students and perhaps professors and university workers as well. Then also include interviews with business owners of varying sizes, considering how they perceive a college degree and if they require it?
Questions to ask:
- How much are you paying for tuition?
- Were you forced to go to college because of your parents?
- Is there a stigma against not going to college?
- (To people who didn’t go to college) Why didn’t you go to college? Was it because the major didn’t provide anything they needed? Was financial aid a play in why you didn’t go to college?
- UTC in Bangor
- Ask college students what their major is and what they plan on settling for as a career
- (to business owner) Did you take over this business/passed down to you? What do you look for in employees? Does their degree put a play in hiring?
- (professors) When students take your classes, what do you expect them to get out of it?
- (tech school) Do you think that you outcome the same amount of education as a university?
- Appropriate: currently being debated upon universally, so yes
- Accessible: yes, we can get where we need to go (on campus/off campus). We can work these things out with transportation. Schedules tend to be an issue (TBD).
- Size: No, it can be expanded upon extensively.
- Scope: No, we narrowed it down to the focus that we want it to be.
