Writing 2 – Tim Clark

A.) Brainstorming

1. An interesting person to interview would be Margaret Nagle. She is the senior director of public relations. She is very high up at Umaine and deals with a lot of tings on campus.

2. A place can be most or all the roads at Umaine. Most have big pot holes, one road I know with a lot of pot holes is the road right in front of Maine Bound.

3.  I drive on campus every day so I and the rest of the students are affected by the conditions.

4.  Every day I see people drive in the middle of the road or even cross to the other side of the road to miss the potholes. It’s extremely dangerous and almost all drivers on campus are doing it.

5. Crews that fix the roads are getting a lot more business. A friend that I have had to take his car to get repaired because of the pot holes, so the car repair shops are getting more business.

6.  A petition to fix the potholes have been made. A lot of students are aware of it and have signed it.

7. I haven’t investigated or looked into this issue before.

8. I don’t have any footage of the potholes at Umaine, but I know that pothole have been a topic of discussion on bigger levels, showing up one the news in the spring.

B.) Feasibility

1. The potholes is a hot topic around campus right now. The student body is actually trying to make something be done about the issue.

2. It is campus so we will have unlimited access of the roads.

3. For the students it isn’t a small topic because the audience will have been affected by it everyday. From an outsiders perspective it wont matter too much to them. But with all of the shots being at Umaine and you’re a student this should be able to hold you interest.

4.  I don’t think the topic is too big or too small. Pot holes affect people even if you don’t go to Umaine. The documentary will still contain statistics and facts about potholes, so it can still be useful to others. Umaine is kind of a landmark for Maine so this could even be of some use to Mainers.

C.) Development – Subject

Everyone is affected by potholes, some more than others. Currently at Umaine potholes have become an epidemic. We as a group want to document how much these potholes can affect a student body, find out how much damage these potholes and look for a solution that can prevent or aid the potholes. My group members Olivia, Charles and I will be doing most of the filming while also conducting interviews. Tyler will be taking care of the editing while Kaitlyn will be handling the research. We want to capture the potholes in action, interviews and some shots of students one campus. We hope to get the interview done by March 7th to have the documentary done by March 15th. The students of Umaine are looking for a solution, we are trying to find it, and you can help us down the bumpy road in search of it.
