Writing 2-Trystin Killer

A.)

  1. Fellow New Media students, staff, other faculty members, and random people and what they think New Media means.
  2. The setting is not relevant, only the content of what the question means to them.
  3. I am regularly involved with New Media, whether it’s filming, programming, editing video, so the topic pertains great relevance to my life.
  4. What I find interesting is that everyone has a different opinion or idea of what New Media means. It’s a broad subject that covers so many topics. Some people define New Media majors as lazy people just wanting an easy major, or some people see us as tech gurus.
  5. “What are you going to do with that major after college?” is a question I’m sure many of us receive often. Usually answered with a shoulder shrug or “I don’t know”. So, interest in what people think we could be successful in after college is appealing.
  6. No events other than class are substantial enough to provide any amount of usable content. Talking to random people is about as “eventful” as it gets.
  7. I am curious to what people think New Media students do day to day academically.
  8. No footage beforehand.

B.)

  1. The topic seems very appropriate for the studies we pursue everyday.
  2. Yes, anyone and everyone can answer this question provided they are literate.
  3. & 4. The size and scope of this topic is very wide. People can have zero idea what New Media is, or they can make educated guesses based on their knowledge. However, this is the most important part of the question. Getting that broad spectrum of answers is exactly what we’re going for. We want to see the good, bad, and ugly or what people think it is.

C.)

  1. Mission Statement: The topic being discussed is the generalized question of “What do you think New Media is/means?”. The people being interview is everyone and anyone, with a slight focus on New Media colleagues and professors. I want to do this as a topic because I’ve always found it interesting when I tell people I’m a New Media major. The perplexed look I get every time with a follow-up question like “So, you’re just going to college to party?” or “How on Earth are you going to get a job with that title?”. I would like to see every side of the question and know what people genuinely think about it. I’m working alongside four other New Media colleagues where we take turns filming and uploading video/audio and eventually creating a short documentary. The documentary can be made anywhere; wherever there are people. We will film everything first individually and as a group, and then piece together everything into a workable documentary using adobe premiere.
