Writing 3 – Claire H

A: Topic: School Org – A school organization that might need some promotion is the UMaine Panhellenic Council for the upcoming fall formal recruitment. Business or Fundraising Enterprise – A business could be the University bookstore in order to sell more apparel for incoming students or seniors that are about to be alum. Music or the Arts – The dance classes or groups that put on the Dance Showcase at the end of the semester might benefit from a short promo video to get more students and other people not involved in the university to come. Public Service – A big movement that is happening at the moment is climate change affecting our futures. People are starting to get more upset with the fact that the government isn’t doing anything major to help make a change. Sports – Making a video about creating intramural teams for any of the sports would be beneficial to the rec center. Other – Another group or organization could be anyone on campus. We could ask some of the clubs on campus that might want more members to join and we could help them make something.

B. Sounds: In terms of the climate change crisis, Noise – Some noises I associate with this would be ocean sounds, nature sounds and animals on the more pleasant aspect of it. But I also think about oil drilling and screams of animals and screams of people protesting. These sounds can be used to create awareness of the protests or how loud oil drilling is and how harmful it is to the animals that live around these areas. Voice – The message that needs to be said is that we need to take action against the big companies that are causing harm to our environment and causing our climate to change in a negative away and we need to take action fast. The type of voice I would use would be a serious but not scary voice. Music – At first it would be happier music when we show shots of animals living in peace in their home. Then when we start talking about how climate change is affecting these animals it would be sad music. Lastly when we talk about who is causing the biggest affect in the change it will be serious music.

C. Writing: Client & Audience – Our client would be the places and animals that are affected by climate change that aren’t able to speak up for themselves. Our audience would be state and national governments and the general public. Objective – The goal of the project is to educate and create more awareness of this issue. Content – Like I explained above, we would start out the video with shots of forest and the ocean and all that live within. We would see them playing together and at peace in their natural environment. During these shots would we hear the sounds of the environment that is being shown. Next, we would show how these things are living now due to humans’ impact on the environment, for example we could show how badly the ice caps have melted and how that has affected the polar bears. Or we could show seagulls or other ocean birds covered in oil, due to the very common oil spills that occur. During this part we would have sad music playing in the background but also any natural sounds that occur. Lastly, we would talk about the big 100 companies that are major influencers on the climate and their carbon footprint. During this part we would have sad and serious music but also we would have sounds of trucks or sounds of factories that are out putting these high amounts of carbon energy into the atmosphere.
