Writing 3 – JohnB
As we did in our previous project, the dangerous Maine weather and conditions could be an interesting topic to cover. But as it gets warmer and since we already covered it, it might not be such a good idea. We could make a video covering the New Media department and interview professors and students involved in it. Local Businesses could be contacted to make promotional material for them as well. Maine services such as dining halls or recreation centers could be good subjects for promotional material. The Collins Center for the arts often has concerts and plays which could be another good subject for our piece. The campus planetarium has interesting shows most Fridays too. I have never seen any advertising for it so that could help spread the word.
Focusing on the planetarium example, sound would play a important role. The noises i associate with this topic would be calm sounds are even the absence of sound being used in interesting ways. Most schools dont have planetariums so we could highlight that it is a not a common opportunity for people to experience. The music i associate with this topic would be calming sweeping soundtracks that emphasize the vastness of space. Having someone narrate with a nice voice could make people interested, such as Morgan Freeman or David Attenbouroughs voices help bring character to whatever they narrate.
Hello, we are writing this proposal to the Emera Astronomy Center. We would like the oppurtunity the create a promotional piece for your planetarium. Spreading the word of your events could help make more people interested. Many students might not know that they can get in with a discount (or free) with a Mainecard. Our project would focus on what they see in the shows.
Open with a video of the center from outside, at night to display the lights. Talk about space and the vastness of it. Show clips of space, then a small walkthrough of the venue. Videos from inside the dome. Find stock footage of space or other planetariums.
