Writing 3 – MichaelC

A: Brainstorming

  • UMaine Bookstore
  • Union dining/cafe
  • Rec. Center for fitness

B: Sounds

  1. Noises most commonly associated with the business ideas would be cash register noises, clanking of plants, silver wear, cooking noises, and general chatter from a busy place. The best way to get a good response from the viewer on the food related topics would be good sounds of the food cooking such as a sizzling sound because it is pleasant and people know and like what it is.
  2. Any voice over would most likely be explaining generally what the business is about. For example, the bookstore topic voiceover would generally be about what is being sold, prices, deals, hours, and general information about the store. For all three of the topics listed it would be beneficial to have a calm yet energetic, friendly, and approachable voice.
  3. The music best suited would be a friendly, melodic type music in the background that doesn’t overwhelm the voiceover or what is being shown on screen. Making sure it is upbeat and cheering would benefit.

C: Writing

  1. The client is the Union dining and the audience is anyone who attends or visits UMaine.
  2. The goal of the video would be to get more people to eat at the Union. Even if it is not to eat a meal that is prepared, it is also just to buy a snack, drink, or anything being sold.
  3. I can see the video being made two ways that I think could both be equally effective. The first way could be a regular, serious video showing shots of the food, the location, people enjoying their food, and with cheery music. But, the second way could be more interesting for college students. This way could be to shoot the video like an infomercial and describe all the products being sold really dramatically like a Shamwow commercial type style. In this style there would be a lead actor inside the Union dining area going around and showing how great everything is. It would still have B Roll shots of food, people walking around, talking, laughing, and enjoying the food. But I think it could be much more interesting and attention grabbing if there was humor of a really over the top parody of a crappy infomercial. Of course, we would not want to go so over the top to where it looks like we are painting the business in a bad light, but there should be enough to where it is funny.
