Writing 3- Olivia Burton
A. Topic: brainstorming and research
- Create a promotional video for a Sorority/Fraternity on campus (perhaps AOII?- the one I am apart of).
- St. George Lake Brewery: A promotional video potentially capturing the history, journey and reasoning by what makes this particularly small brewery “unique”.
- Promoting the University of Maine with the focus of the “thaw” of the outdoors and how on campus the surroundings inevitably become more lively (including people!).
B. Sounds
- For a video to promote Greek Life, I think there is a safe assumption that a lot of noise would be sourcing from dialogue. Meaning this can range from sporadic interviews of varying people telling their experiences or even range to traditional sayings and chants that could be sung.
- My first initial thought when thinking of sounds that could be useful and sourcing from a brewery are the commonly known sounds of a drink being poured. This can be done and filmed with a close-up shot of a pint glass and it being filled at an angle from the tap.
- I think a video containing mostly outdoor clips such as the “Thaw of UMaine” would be imagined to have ambient background music. Possibly at some parts layer the background music with a voice telling a specific story as the visuals are of locations around campus.
C. Writing
For Project 3, we have came to the conclusion that we are going to create a promotional video for St. George Lake Brewery located in Liberty, Maine. It is owned by an older man by the name of Danny Mcgovern. Our objective is to capture the tiny details and aspects of this particular brewery and what of those details makes it considered “unique”. Such as, the signature brews that are created and served there and the origin of these creations.
Ideas of Shots:
-Wide Pan of Building & showing what surrounds.
-Shot of in between brewing machines & a slow paced pan.
-Close up shot of a filled beer glass with signature drink?
-A moving close-up capturing the menu provided in brewery (location and look dependent)
**Possibly have an employee/owner’s voice read over menu and follow with visuals.
-Close up shot of malt being poured into machine (if possible)
-A clip of Danny McGovern being interviewed and answering questions.
**have dialogue carry on over into visuals of brewery.
-Color Grading: Should be warm hues (orange/sephia) due to aesthetic of brewery and rustic vibe.
-“Soft Rock” background music (playing lightly in back to blend all clips together more smoothly).
