Writing 4 – Brett Smith

As of now, I am thinking about making a video that is one minute long and is all shot in one take. The story will have a conflict and resolution all from a stationary camera. I want to challenge myself with this project, so it will probably be dialogue heavy. It will also require me to have good directing because I will need my actors to do specific things at specific times, in order for the take to finish at a minute. For a script, this will be a general guideline, but I am sure my actors will improv a little so this is not concrete.

Scene starts with slow zoom out from door handle. Door opens and two characters, Finn and Charley get introduced. Finn and Charley enter the room so Finn can get his jacket. Finn is chewing gum.

Finn: Nah, nah, man it doesn’t work like that. You can’t just enter a room without knocking.

Charley: Why not? She knew I was coming.

Finn: Yeah but it’s more of a courtesy thing, like a slight heads up.

Charley: Dude it was one time, I don’t think it’s a big deal.

Finn: Trust me, when it comes to relationships, it’s the little things that mean the most.

Charley: Hasn’t anyone ever told you not to chew with your mouth open? It’s the little things.

Finn: Listen, for your own sake, just knock. You’ve only known her for a couple weeks.

Charley: *sigh with a slight pause*

Charley: Well I’ve known her longer than you so I don’t think you should be the one telling me what I should and should not do.

Finn: *deep breath, reaches for jacket on bed*

Finn: Right…

Charley: *Analyses his actions*

Charley: Wait a second, how do you know Emma?

Finn: Hey how’d that test go this morning?

(Finn starts to leave and Charley follows)

Charley: Not bad, felt pretty decent. But wait how do you know Emma?

Finn: Come on we’re gonna be late.

(Door closes, scene cuts)
