For this final documentary, I’d like to explore the means and methods in creating a short documentary. I want to specifically play around with audio editing and close-up, intimate visuals to present the story of a runner who has battled hardship to become successful in his running career. To really portray the mood and proper story-telling techniques that we’ve learned in class, I want to play with the style of macro-shots in combination with music intensity and action-intensity in the shots themselves.
I’m very inspired by this person and by the art of filmmaking, particularly in the journalism/documentary field, which highly motivates my enthusiasm to create a short documentary on this runner. In a broader scale, I’m not really just presenting one runner’s story, I’m also presenting a story that a larger community (of all who use running as a coping mechanism). This is particularly important to me because I, myself, am a runner as well, and running is a coping mechanism that I’ve used in my everyday life.
