Writing 4 – Jordan Jawdat

A Vox Pop asking people to describe their longest moment. Notice the editing and pacing of the answers to construct a kind of story or meaning.

For our final project, I was thinking about making a video that would ask some what their greatest regret in life is, and then to have the narration of their answer over B roll of the person and what not along with some clips of the interview, which wouldn’t necessarily be set up in a cliche interview setting, but instead, more of a comfortable place, like a couch, picnic table, or even laying down on the grass, kind of like just visualizing a deep conversation. My main goal with the video is to get people to just take a step back from this crazy and constantly in motion world and ask themselves what is their true biggest regret in life, and how one question can have so many interesting and impactful answers. Of course, since it’s a minute long video, I could only interview a single person, since I feel like that’s an ideal amount of allotted time for someone to fully explain their biggest regret. Before I decided this idea for my film, I did a little social experiment and just asked a couple of my friends this simple question and was shocked by the amount of crazy stories I got to hear and the numerous emotions that can arise from this question. I hope that I can capture this and really make sure that my video/cinematography really portrays what this person went through. If I don’t feel like the video is made in the image that I visualized whether that be due to my editing skills or lack of B Roll or anything like that, I’d like to work on refining this over the summer or something and making sure that this video really showcases how emotion in video can be portrayed successfully.
