Writing 4 – MichaelC

For my final my plan is to make a story crafted around a “typical” day for a student at UMaine. This would consist of getting up out of bed, getting food, doing work, ect. However, the twist would be using lots of cuts and small effects to go about these tasks “magically”. Mainly this would involve me snapping things into place. Such as I would get up out of bed in my pajamas, then snap my fingers and my day clothes would “magically” change. This snap effect would go about throughout the film where I would solve normal college students problems with this magic effect or ones like it. So, I would essentially be teleporting throughout the day to different locations, making work and tasks happen, solving problems I would typically have.

This video here kind of represents the effect I would go for. Except I think the transition between shots to get the teleport effect is poorly done. My video would be POV style shots from my perspective and I would try to make very seamless transitions to not make it so obvious that things just moved around. My hand and fingers would always be in frame when snapped and they would be in the same position in the new frames where things changed, giving the viewer more continuity because my arm was the constant that didn’t change, but the environment did, making it seem more seamless. Also, if things work out very well in the final cut version, if time permits I would like to try to add draw, glow effects such as this to my snapping hand to make it feel more magical and not like an ordinary thing.
