On a cold December morning in Buxton, Maine, I was driving my car back to my house at approximately 8am. No ice or snow on the road, just a cold, brisk, day. With the radio on & the heat up, I was feeling pretty comfortable. Although I was stuck behind an 18 wheeler going painfully slow, (35 in a 50) I didn’t mind. Eventually, at the bottom of a not-so-steep hill, the truck was going to veer off to the right to take a slight right turn in the fork in the road. Here’s where things changed. Right as the truck is turning, I hear a loud horn and immediately feel my heart beating fast. I look to my left, & it seemed like time was in slow motion. I see a blonde woman driving a silver toyota camry with who I assume was her boyfriend in the front seat. Although I couldn’t get a great glimpse, I was able to tell it was a man by the facial structure and beard. Why was this lady beeping? Well, it’s because she was taking a left turn into the same road as the truck, and didn’t notice me. At this point, I let out a cuss of fear “Sh**!” as I pin my wheel to the right to avoid the car. As I’m turning away, I get a short glimpse of her and see that she was in as much fear as I was. As I turned the wheel, my car lost control and began to slide across to the other side of the road. Luckily, I was able to quickly shift the wheel right again to remain safe on the correct side of the road. I abruptly came to a stop, thinking there was damage to my car, (how could there not be damage, right?) I thought the tail of my car must’ve struck the nose of hers as I was trying to evade the collision. OK, now I’m stopped on the side of a rural road in Nowhereland, Maine. My heart is beating from shock and I’m slightly confused on what exactly happened, I thought I could’ve died. After a few seconds, I get out of the car only wearing sweatpants, slippers, and a sweatshirt, to go see if the woman and her boyfriend were ok. When I get out, I see their car on the right side of the road around 30 meters away, parked. As I approach their vehicle, I hear the engine start back up and watch as they drive away, up the hill that I just came up. Although nothing happened to my car & I, I was visibly angry that they would just leave without checking in on something that could’ve turned disastrous, at their vault.
If I was to somehow recreate this, we would need to use probably 4 cameras to convey the message as I saw it. One camera placed in both vehicles, one on the side and one on a tripod at the bottom of the hill. Perhaps an over head shot as well.
