This project was very different in terms of roles. Rather than having each specific person do a single main role, besides editing and camera man for the most part, we all worked together and did anything that was needed of us to get the advertisement done. I did a lot of the editing personally. I feel as though I did a very good job in this role. The final cut of the ad had some nice tight editing, and a good attention to detail with the music, transitions, and the overall layout of Ians interview and the b-roll. All of our sound work was done outside of school time, but it came out rather well. In terms of the group working together it was phenomenal. Everyone was active in slack for good communication, and everyone did their part either in a technical way or a creative problem solving way. When we were on the “set” and working on making the video good it was easy to tell everyone was involved and pitching ideas and offering to help in any way possible. If there’s one thing i would improve though it’d be the amount of interview we had to put in. While editing I noticed that if the interview material had fit better with the footage we took it would’ve looked more clean cut but it still came out very good in my opinion.
The video was to advertise the software reality capture. The structure of the video was well thought out to really show what reality capture can do in terms of creativity and application throughout many other softwares to make something that one might not even think possible. Ians use of reality capture to turn microscopic organisms into 3d models and then use those models in very creative was was a perfect setup for this. The sound was good as well, I think the music chosen was very fitting and gave the ad an uplifting and techno vibe at the same time. The shots were fast paced. You would see a bit of Ians interview throughout while he was setting up to talk about a big part of his process while making microscopia, then it would cut to fast clips of b-roll footage to visualize what he was explaining in the background. Overall the ad was well made through collaborative team work between our group and our client. Our client Ian seems to agree because when the video was done he seemed very happy about the outcome and overall feel of the video.
