The article, Facebook, Cambridge Analytica… and Hippocrates, goes on to talk about we as humans tend to be very hypocritical when it comes to tech. We like to believe that technology can be the source of many issues, Wall-E is a great movie representation of this. Th author of this article pleas with the audience that the tech around us isn’t as bad out as we make it, and things could be significantly worse. The end of this article has an oath that says to only use tech that helps you, and use only the ones that ethically help society. (https://c4urselves.com/article_read.php?a=5)
While this website was all responding to the big question, a lot of responders bring up some valuable points. There are people who appreciate the innovation, creation, and up bringing have technology to help out the human race. On the opposing end there are responders who find that tech will will be our downfall, and that eventually we will be sos disconnected from other humans, that no one would be happy. This feature of YesMagazines is an article exposing the addiction of social media and how mental health diagnosis is on the rise. Social media is created to be addicting as their algorithms and advertisements go hand and hand when showing you everything you’d like to see. When it comes to instagram and Facebook, everyone wants the likes as they socially show everybody you are more ‘popular’. A result of this shows a fad in climbing depression and eating disorders alike. But could this result be more of an exposure to the information about mental health?(https://www.yesmagazine.org/happiness/the-people-behind-your-tech-addiction-are-now-trying-to-curb-it-20180628)
This post talks about the benefits and falling outs of social media. I feel like the other articles were more one side than the others and that this acticle contains valuable points and methodologies that could be used in arguments. Social media could be helpful in many ways; contact with lost friends, sharing vacation photos, creates a happiness and entertainment for the end user. Social media could be hurtful as; it can be addicting and waste hours of your day, you could feel small and that everyone’s lives are cooler than your own, and you could become depressed as the dependency to view social media rises. I would like to research if there is a true link to social media and mental health issues. Are we more prone to be diagnosed with mental health issues, or is it because a generational exposure to the information on mental health, opposing a generational ignorance to it? This question is important to me, because I’ve always felt older generations blame social media for mental health issues, but most are also ignorant in the knowledge that anxiety and depression are real issues.
