Above, are the photos I chose for the theme of positive impact derived from digital media. These images were found on a blog I have recently found named “Girl Talk HQ” in which focuses on the topic of feminism. These are all found in the same article “How Has Social Media Impacted The Current Feminist Movement Around The World?” written by Elisa Abbott. In the article, it explains in depth the belief of how social media has heavily impacted the movement of feminism and gender equality- and for the better in some ways. The picture furthest to the left quotes Reese Witherspoon on the red carpet saying “You know, this is a movement to say we’re more than just our dresses.”. This was stated after multiple women making their disagreement known with the comparison of the questions female vs. male actors were asked on the red carpet. This started the movement of the hashtag on social media “#askhermore”, in the hopes that people would recognize that many of the women felt misunderstood. Misunderstood, in the sense that they did not feel like they were getting the same treatment compared to the male actors. The impact of that one hashtag led to acknowledgment from the Academy and the press. Interviewer Robin Roberts from ABC ended up choosing some of the questions following the “#askhermore” hashtag and asked the women at the red carpet the most relevant ones.
The center photo, is of Michelle Obama holding up a piece of paper that has the hashtag “#BringBackOurGirls” written on it. This image is particularly powerful for multiple reasons. One being that she is a powerful figure amongst society being the First Lady. Second, being that with her position she used it to broadcast the message of a very important problem. The hashtag “#BringBackOurGirls” was created as a campaign to raise awareness on the difficulties women in Nigeria face every single day. Now, the hashtag cannot be attributed for some of the girls being released after a number of years, but played a key role in increasing pressure on authorities to find solutions with the intent to create a safer environment for the women living in West Africa

The top left photo is an image found off Google images, but I believe can be seen as identical to a copious amount of images showing humans glued to their phones. This is because this is just one of the many signs that singularity is on its way- or if not, already has arrived. This can be seen as a negative image by majority of society, because instead of socializing with the people they are physically with- they still choose to put their full attention on their electronic devices. Here, is where singularity can be triggered. The long term effect of society becoming more and more antisocial is a large fear many people have- especially with the extreme incline of advancements with technology.
The top right photo above, is a bar graph showing the statistics of people admitting that they have an addiction to social media. Here, it shows that 56% of people who admitted are women, and the remaining 44% are men. All of the statistics included in this photo can contribute to the ongoing fear of singularity and how humans will/are becoming co-dependent with technology.
Lastly, the bottom image is a graphic trying to demonstrate evolutionary substrate and the prediction of where humans are headed. I believe the most shocking images about technology are the ones that remind one of reality in which triggers the mind to think. The last phase on the chart is labeled “Bio-digital fusion”. In which is in direct relation if not the same as singularity. It is also referring to literal fusion of digital and human processes. This fusion can be shown in multiple inventions such as the large growing company called BioDigital. The company is working on improving the digital revolution with the focus of studying Human Anatomy.
