Part 1:

“The Internet has changed the way we make decisions. More and more, it is not individual humans who decide but an entangled, adaptive network of humans and machines.” –  W. Daniel Hillis, 229

This quote is detailing how society and culture has changed since the introduction of the internet. Rather than having your own ideas and beliefs, the internet causes people to adopt a mob mentality and tells you what to believe and do. In addition to that, the internet encourages you to make certain decisions by only showing you information that you will like, creating an information loop without any opposing opinions.

I honestly don’t remember much before the internet, but I do remember before I was on the internet when my Mom would tell me to go play I would go outside, run around, and spend as much time as I could in my backyard. I was really imaginative and would make up my own games and have a ton of fun.

After I was on the computer and the internet, I would spend almost all my free time playing video games and going online. It would even encroach on my time that I was supposed to be doing homework. Instead of my Mom telling me to go out and play, it would be her telling me to get off of whatever device I was using.

Part 2:

“I Can Make A Difference Because of The Internet” – Bruce Hood

The main point that the author is making here is that the internet gives anybody the ability to share their opinion on anything to everybody. However, in this ability it grants everybody power as well as insignificance. You have the power to influence people and their minds, make narratives, and cause change but there are so many voices on the internet that you will most likely remain irrelevant and unknown.

“The Collective Brain” – Matt Ridley

The main point that this author is trying to make is that the Internet is so powerful because of the combined intelligence and specialization of every person that uses it. No matter what you need to know at least one person on the internet will have an answer to your question.
