This video was a fairly comprehensive look at the state of America’s mental health: to paraphrase, it doesn’t look good. Capitalistic ideology has overtaken our systems of operation on both a national and neurological level. We’ve normalized the mental and emotional suffering of people for the majority of their lives, and it’s taken a significant toll on the structure of society. Isolationism has led to society feeling more disconnected than ever, despite having more access to tools to connect than ever before in history. Community and purpose are essentially the two driving forces of feeling content with life– and with the way our country is configured, we’ve stripped people of both, leaving people depressed, anxious, isolated, and dependent on drugs in order to operate in a system that isn’t made for them.
