Brainstorm:

  • Critical thinking
    • “Not accepting”
    • Deeper thinking
      • Time investment
    • Investigating
    • Different Sources
  • Changes to help with increasing brain skills
    • Deleting apps that serve as a distraction rather than being helpful to you
    • Reading
    • Journaling/writing
    • Research
    • Hobbies
      • If it’s something you enjoy you’ll be spending more time focusing on it
    • Having Diverse Interests (arts, athletics, sciences, history, English, etc.)
    • Creative outlets
    • Trial and error
      • You have to fail a few times during the learning process, don’t just give up after the first time you mess up
    • Setting time limits for certain activities that aren’t as “productive” (like different social media and other online platforms)
    • Being more mindful of how you’re spending your time
      • Are you actually present and enjoying the things you’re doing
  • Fighting the urge to quit doing something when you’re bored of it
  • Taking the time to see something through, and complete it thoroughly
  • Getting more sleep
  • Working with others to facilitate work being done and discussions
  • Not just taking everything at face value
  • Finding ways to reduce stress if you can
  • Practicing the use of undivided attention

Topic Idea:

  • Finding ways to balance the use of technology and other ways to spend time so that people aren’t giving up technology completely but they are diversifying their time and thinking more in-depth about different things in their life that are important rather than being “sucked into” technology
    • Questions:
      • How long could you go without checking your phone?
      • How much could you get done if you utilized technology like a tool instead of a form of entertainment?
      • What are some things you want to do with your life that you aren’t accomplishing because you “don’t have time?”… How much time are you spending on your phone that you could be spending working on these things?

  • ” It is [the internet]… changing what parts of the brain we use, has made us a little more distractible, and has become an addictive pleasure”
