When we focus on all the harm that the internet brings, we often forget the countless tools that it can also supply us with. When I think of the way the internet helps me, I immediately think about how it helps me stay connected with my family. I can facetime or call my family members whenever I need them, which is very important being 6 hours from home for most of the year.

As I was trying to think of how to improve facetime, I wasn’t sure what else it could incorporate. Often times on facetime we get notifications and “pause” our camera while the microphone still allows the phone call to stay connected. To redesign this feature, my idea is to create an icon that allows the option to display your screen instead of pausing. With this feature, we would be able to show messages, pictures, videos or our feed on social media. On facetime when telling a story, I often have to take a screenshot and send it to someone to show them. With this feature, they can just stay on facetime while looking at the image, or whatever is being shown.

For this design, I would keep the facetime set up normal, but implement an icon alongside the others with the option of screen display. I believe that this will allow more connections and a more engaged facetime connection.
